We have been working on privacy preserving profiling, advertising, data mining, and user monitoring systems for a decade now, but we are yet to see a real world deployment. In this talk I will discuss some of the players in this ecosystem, their strengths and strategies, and the shortcomings of computer science solutions in this space. The talk is based on a number of recent papers and studies.
